What can you do when the decorating budget is at $0? Why rearrange, of course! This is a little habit of mine. I tend to rearrange our house a lot. It always satisifies some need I have. In this case it's my new sofa/reupholstered chair need that we're trying to ward off. Let me know what you think... Here's our family room from various angles before I scooted the furniture around and after.
Honest opinions welcomed! I'm not settled on anything, and chances are, it'll be different by the end of the week, but my itch has been scratched for now... And it didn't cost a thing!
Other free activities planned for the week:
- Go to the library. We've been hitting up this joint for book, cds, and movies. It's a gold mine!
- Ride bikes: My daughter is officially two-wheeling it and can't get enough. Remind me to take a picture of what we've rigged up for the little guy since he has to ride too.
- Write and mail a letter to sweet Aunt Doris. We'll probably throw in some artwork as well.
- Swim. Thank goodness for good friends and a grandmother with pools!
Any other free (or very inexpensive) ideas to fill our time and help curb potential spending in the entertainment department?
{For any new readers, here's a little background... I'm currently on spending hiatus due to this. I made it official here, and you can look at my journey thus far here. So far, so good. I will continue to attest that being on spending hiatus when you have no money is quite simple. I know it will get tougher when our income changes. (I sure do look forward to those challenges!) In the meantime, I'm enjoying the simplification process and working to change my mindset toward spending and things.}

Definitely need to see what you rigged up for the little guy... I bet he's just dying to keep up.
And, I like the new arrangement!
I think it look great like that! I love the couch facing the fireplace and you can let the kids out back to play and see them from the couch! Really cute.
Don't forget you have to come and do my living room. :-)
I like the new arrangement- pinky swear! It opens not only the room up, but also invites your guest in. Have a golden day!! xoxo
Oh, I think it looks wonderful! Good work.
I love to rearrange... thanks for reminding me! :)
Running through the sprinklers is fun, and I find if done right before bed time is a great sub for summer baths and it makes the kids a little chilly so they are all set to snuggle into bed! (maybe even a little early!)
you are doing great on the spending hiatus and the living room looks great too - we put up a tire swing and went to the photo booth for some cheap summer fun (in addition to swimming & library)...
J :)
I do the exact same thing! I can rarely afford to actually buy something for my room, so I'm always finding ways to ruse things in the space or reformat the look. I think it looks really good :)
Wow..it looks gorgeous! You can come to our nest anytime to do some rearranging!! ;)
you go!! i'm very impressed. i love creating a new look on $0. when my sister and i were little, we were constantly rearranging my the living room and our bedroom around. i guess that is where our interior design itch started. :)
now i hardly ever do it in my current place. but everywhere i go, i do it for the rooms i'm in in my mind. i imagine how i might make a room look better just by rearraning things or getting rid of some things—even at friend's house, although i don't tell them {unless they ask, of course}.
:)
I LOVE the new set up sooo much! yippee.
I really like the new arrangement. Having the couch under that window and it seems like the seating arrangements allow for a good flow to the room!
Enjoy swimming!!
Hey there. This summer we have discovered the Richardson public pools. $2 will get each person over 5 in (little guy would be free), and you can take your own food, unlike the Kaycee. We have been to the Terrace pool several times already and love it!
And the space between the couch and the wall makes a great "fort"!
I agree with the other posters: the rearrange totally opens up the room. It's fabulous! You're inspiring me (as always) to try a rearrange in my cupboard. It definitely scratches the itch.
In other news, I'm right along with you on the spending hiatus. It *is* pretty easy and simple when you don't have any money, isn't it? I was feeling pretty relaxed about not having or spending money until I swiped the side mirror of a parked car today -- and now I think I'll have to fork over some cash so as not to go through insurance. Boo hiss.
I think it looks great! And I'm loving that peep of chalkboard!
i like the end result :)
activity suggestions: bake muffins together as a family and enjoy them at a picnic at the park, or recycle some of the stuff you would normally send to garbage and make something out of them!
love it. my home does not allow for much moving of furniture. I love my home but it bugs me that I am stuck with one look. oh well. at least i have a home and furniture : )
I think that's so great you can think that way -- my head looks at our room and says "it can only fit this way!" Maybe we could change it up, I don't know.
Love the changes!!
We like to do puzzles.....you know, the ones with about a million pieces that take about a week to complete. We talk and talk!
I like the way you re arranged! I need to do this more:)
thanks for your sweet anniversary comment today.....I did snatch myself a good one:) xoxo
I like the new arrangement. I had a serious case of rearranging this weekend but unfortunately didn't act on it. Love all your ideas, especially letter writing, such a lost art!
After looks a little less boxy, and a little more inviting. I never get to rearrange furniture because there's always only one configuration that works!
I love rearranging, I think its good to do every now and again...speaking of I think I should do some in my house, thanks for the reminder!
This is an obsession of my husband's, too! Your afters look great...you have a really good eye!
Oh, the after is wonderful. Great job!
