Progress Pics and Color ??

Ripped up, sanded, filled, and as of today, primed:

Now what color?? Love the look of all of the following floors I found on Harmony and Home and a couple other places I didn't bookmark:

I'm having a hard time settling on two to go with. You would laugh at my stacks (and stacks) of color swatches... I've always loved the typical retro black and white checkerboard on a diagonal, and my 1950's house could work it, but I'm being realistic with my lack-of-love for floor cleaning and am shying away from white. So, what about black and tan or maybe black and brown?? All of the pictures I've found are painted wood-plank flooring. Do you think the black would look too bold on the solid plywood? I'm also considering two shades of brown, a light and dark version of each other. And I do like that last picture with the red in it. Oh goodness, I'm in a color conundrum.

Insider info: The walls in my kitchen are currently red, but will soon be a dark grayish brown color, as well as the surrounding rooms. The cabinets are white. Not sure on the countertops, but there will most likely be some butcher block in there somewhere. I have white, tan, black, red, and many different woods in the surrounding rooms.

Thoughts... Opinions... Guidance?
Heading (back) to the paint store this AM.

**update: There is no update. Still haven't settled on colors, and I'm driving my sweet hubby nuts with the deliberation.

***another update: One color chosen and painted... Doubts ensuing.

****final update: IT'S DONE! Check out it out!

i am so excited to see your finished product erin!
i have loved teh checkerboard painted floors forever!
that first image i believe is from a girl in frederksburg texas & i crushed completely on her entire home. i think the black & tan is my fave, even over black & white.
but any choice will look so cute in your cheerful home.

I had black and white tiles in the kitchen at our old place, I didn't like it at all. Perhaps it was because it didn't match the rest of our house in decor, or perhaps because it was quite lairy...so I advise away from black and white! I'm more a bare wood floor kinda gal, but I do like the dark brown and beige flooring in the pic with the white island...good luck!

It's going to look so great.

Honestly- from experience- black shows just as much if not more on a floor than white (scuffs, spills, dust, dirt). Just something to think about.

I like the idea of black and white, but maybe toned down in with a cream and a really dark grey? I CAN NOT wait to see the results... so excited for you!

I still think brown and light brown. I think black would show a lot. I loved the idea of the gray on the floor (what about the same color as the walls?).

I would skip the black and white, I think it would date the kitchen (but not in a good way) and I do think it would be too harsh on plywood. I like the first photo with the brownish/black and the light tan/cream color.

What about a deep red brown and tan/cream...

My friend did hers by painting the floor the darker color - it was blue gray - and then cream over - with some distressing in the cream areas so the gray showed through. It really makes dirt hide a little better. Can't wait to see the final product.

I love the idea of the dark brown stain with the tan stain. Looks sharp but not like faux vintage. Reminds me of inlaid wood. And it could help tie in the other wood tones you said were nearby.

With kitchens I usually vote neutrals on the permanent stuff and color on the accessories!

We have black and white is brutal. What does not show on the white shows on the black!

well, i can't offer any guidance (wish i could) but i do love the second option of black (or dark brown) with sepia. it would be much easier to clean than white.

I painted my kitchen floor black with the thought of doing it with white checkerboard but then I saw a stencil so maybe I'll do that but for now I have a black floor, which actually looks nice. Can't wait to see your choice.

Coming from someone who currently has white tile, it is a major pain, I would go with a more earthly tone color to help with keeping it looking clean and fresh in there. So my vote is earthly brown tones :)
