My Laundry "Room" (in-the-works)

Along the same lines as my last entry... It's like we can work on anything around here except what's most pressing (ie: THE KITCHEN). We are now avoiding kitchen decisions by working on my laundry "room". I say "room" because it's actually just a corner in our garage. Our two-car garage has 4 functions: a parking spot for my car, a home gym, laundry room and storage area. I'm really only concerned with my laundry area. (Well, I suppose the other stuff is important too...) My husband, in effort to keep my stuff more in my area, went for helping me spiff up my space. Here's the before:

Pretty terrible, I know. (Sometimes I can't believe what I reveal on this here blog space.) I figure that instead of dreaming of my future laundry/mud room space, I should make what I have now be more functional and look better. Shouldn't be too hard, really, considering what I'm starting with. Here's the plan: bright cheery walls, lots of coordinating storage caddies, fun details to make the task at hand a bit less dreary...

It's not yet a finished project, but the walls are done! I decided that I wanted my little nook to be painted my new favorite color, an appley green. My first attempt was terrible. (You can see it in the before pic.) I seriously stink at picking colors. Love that Home Depot took that back, and that my husband is so much better at picking paint colors than me. He came home with Bay Leaf, and it is perfect! Here's a little peak:

We hung some shelves we already had. I ordered some wall decals (these and these) for some whimsy, and am getting some sweet anthropology-esque knobs from a blog friend. I'll be heading to Ikea soon for some inexpensive storage caddies. And I even snuck in some chalkboard paint too. I cannot wait to put it all together and share it with you. Hopefully that won't be too long, but we all know how distracted and s-l-o-w I can be on home projects! Any home projects you're in the midst of?

Looks good - I don't have any big projects right now, so I just keep organizing and throwing away stuff! I can't wait until our kitchen project too, although it's still years away.

I love that green. It looks like the color of my bathroom, asperagus. I need to work on our laundry space in the basement to make it a little more cheery. I'm overall just trying to organize and simplify. We have a long way to go.

I love that green Erin - I've been carrying around a card of that exact color along with October Leaf and Lagoon Mist - I love all three - just trying to decide where I could put one of them - can't wait to see the final project

Thank you so much for your empathy. I'm excited to see what my story will be, whether or not that involves kids.

Your green is perfect...sometimes a little bit of good design makes life so much more wonderful. I can't wait to see the rest.

We are working on the built-ins in our family room. They were painted a horrid shade when we moved in. Not that nice apple green like yours, more like a poison avocado color. So my husband is stripping and sanding. They are huge and taking forever. Everything that was in them (and they are big) is boxed up in the sunroom. The sunroom was gorgeous. Now it is a cluttered mess of boxes. And the kids keep going in there and taking stuff out and...well, you get the picture!

I love your laundry room color. And as for your kitchen photo above, that is totally what I am craving for my own kitchen! Is that photo from TOH? I have a scrapbook of kitchen photos. I want white cabinets with brushed silver pulls, black countertop and a neutral floor. Not sure if we are going to do laminate or something else for the floor. I can't wait til we can get started. Have to finish the built-ins first...

Hi Elizabeth~ I can't respond back by email, but email me if you want. I can share with you my Houz kitchen file. Sounds like we have very similar tastes. We are starting the kitchen remodel soon. I am SO excited!
