Low/No Cost Fall Decorating

We've made it to the last week in October and our fall decorations are still in a tote up in the attic... I gently suggested to my husband on around October 1st that it would be a great time to bring those down for us.... The kids less-gently urged their dad to get the Halloween stuff out, a time or two or so. I even ventured up into our attic space, only to be totally overwhelmed by the amount of stuff and coming down empty handed (and a case of the heeby jeebies. Not a fan of the attic). Soooo, rather than nag this said husband, I got around the lack of decorations on my own.

Thanks to my sweet friend Erika's idea and the plethora of shedding trees around me, I have a naturally festive mantle:

And due to some walks with a 3 year old who is recently enthralled with having pockets, we now have a bowl full of fall-ness:

And my love affair with spray-paint continues with the metallic variety and some miniature pumpkins placed around the house:

Even though we're not the most decorated house on the block, I'm actually pretty excited about this route because I'm realizing that there's nothing to pack back away! And just think about how excited we'll be next year when we get to rediscover what's actually hiding in the "Fall" storage tote after not having seen in for a couple of years! It might be a good idea to start hinting about Christmas decoration now though...

How are you decorating this season?

I had to "gently" remind to. I need a big storage closet that I can store my stuff in to be accessible! Good use of natural stuff!

It took mine approximately 3 weeks to get them out of the attic after the intial request. You are not alone in your plight ;) I love the painted pumpkins. I wanted to try them this year, but...just didn't get around to it. I might try some for thanksgiving because i'm not quite ready to give up fall just yet. Maybe I'll use fall colors on them instead of the halloweeny silver? Hey! You could re-paint yours for Thanksgiving haha!! Way to think ahead on the Christmas decorations. I may do the same!

I really want to try that leaf idea and those pumpkins look like you bought them at some fancy store, great idea!

I ADORE your mantel! We have not done any fall decorating yet, but I have been burning my pumpkin spice candles like there is no tomorrow.

I too love metallic pumpkins... I did a chalk-board pumpkin this year which was a hit at the house for those who love to be chalk happy...

That's so funny! I actually spray painted a bunch of my orange pumpkins on monday. I was getting tired of the halloween-feel, so I painted them gold. You know what they say about great minds, eh?

Love the leaves on the mantle. So simple and pretty.
