I took my time while working on just the right gallery wall for our family room... I cut out the templates:
And arranged them on the wall:

I lived with them for a while, and then I gathered the courage to start hammering nails into my walls. Then I stepped back to take a look, and I did not like it at all.
I'm not sure what the problem is. Could it be that they are not random enough... Or too random... Or spaced out too far... Or quite possibly, maybe I'm not a gallery wall person after all. How is it that I like just about every arrangement I come across, except for this one? Maybe it's kind of like me loving a sofa set on a diagonal in someone else's home, but can't live with mine not perpendicularly set for more than half a day. I think I have issues.... I'm going to try to overcome and give it another go. We will see. As of right now, these holes in my wall are making me crazy:
Did somebody say issues??

I have one in our living room that CONSTANTLY bugs me because while the arrangement is great, I managed to hang everything just about 6 inches too high.
I hope you figure out a solution because in a few weeks we're doing one in our bedroom & I'd love some tips!
I personally think it's really nice. :)

HAha! I am the same way. I think we are our own worst critics. I love how other's decorate and every one always compliments me and tells me how "homey" and cozy my apartment feels, which is EXACTLY what I was going for. But for me, I criticize everything I do. I am working on a shelving wall in my living room, but I'm scared I'm going to hate it. UGH! Sucks to be such a perfectionionist. I feel your pain. BUT ... I think your wall looks GREAT! I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

I think your wall looked great - did you live with it long enough?

its really nice
I like your idea of creating a newspaper preview of the arrangement on your wall first before actually putting the real stuffs. Having that idea alone is already great. I'm sure you'll come up with the arrangement that suits you best pretty soon. Just refresh-refresh and keep refreshing, twisting the arrangements until you come up with the one you feel comfortable with. Goodluck!

Well I think your wall looks great! I really like the keys and that your frames are all different sizes. Hope you find a way to arrange it that you are pleased with :)
That's really smart, to use the newspaper cut-outs. I think the problem may be that you have too many large items and they're arranged in an overall rectangular shape. Most of the gallery walls I've seen that are really pleasing to the eye arrange the frames in the shape of an oval (short up and down, long side to side). Hope that helps!
i love what you are doing and wanted to give you my first thought on your wall, in the hopes you will find them helpful. i think the black frames seem to be a little too thick and heavy for the wall colour. the green (plate? hard to tell exatly in the photo) also seems like it needs something to tie it into the rest of the display.
good luck
I am reading this and smiling. I recently hung some pics up on my staircase. And didn't ponder long enough. Now I have six huge holes and think I have the new layout, but will still have to plug holes. Yuck! Good luck with yours
